I love travelling, I love getting to know other people, I am curious about their stories, their decisions in life and especially – I cannot hold myself back to ask as many questions as needed to solve the puzzle to their success. These are some characteristics that lie deep inside me and did already exist during my youngest years when I was a small kid. Back then, I was a horse riding instructor and I couldn’t prevent myself from asking the kids (who were the same age as me) how this thing with Mc Donalds worked, how you experience the customer journey to get this little present for free, so-called “Happy Meal”. Honestly speaking, this sounds ridiculous but until my teenage years, I couldn’t experience “Happy Meal” myself since simply nobody was bringing me to Mcdonald’s. But that’s another story. Because in this story, which just happened to me due to a coincidence in Bali, I was taught how to become a billionaire – By a self-made billionaire during drinking some cocktails at Morabito Art Villa in Bali.
Therefore, let me introduce you to Duncan: Duncan is from Australia, in his mid-50s, he’s having the energy of a 30-year-old man who’s living his best life, he’s having a well-trained body, blonde hair and cool colourful pink swim pants with the most beautiful and attention-grabbing accessory: A smile in his face.
When I asked Duncan, what he’s into for work, he explained: “I love the beach, the sun, parties. For work, I’m not doing much. I just enjoy life!”. Those words gave me the impression that he’s doing something right. So I started listening carefully. I found out soon, that he’s the owner of various companies worth more than a few millions of Australian Dollars – which he’s managing on the go.
The following 7 lessons taugt me & will reach you how to do achieve the same.
1st Lesson: Ask Questions
Duncan, I and a friend were sitting at a table in the restaurant and I followed the conversation between both guys. Alex, who just quit his 7-figure-salary job was instructed by Duncan: “Alex, you were way underpaid! You made the right choice. My top-level executives get way higher salaries and so should you.”
I sat there speechless. I, with my baby wage as a partner manager in Berlin, hear “7-figure salaries are not enough”. I couldn’t believe it.
I continued to listen to the two guys, followed every train of thought, and when one moment silence fell, I couldn’t help myself and asked Duncan: “Duncan, how did you get so far? How did you manage to be so successful, not working but still running companies that obviously have revenues in more than 7-digit-figures?”
The billionaire answered: You’re doing the first step already, Nicole. The first lesson to learn how to become financially free is to ask questions. Ask many questions. Find and explore the way of how rich people think, their mental development, their approaches and their failures. But be careful: You don’t wanna ask a guy with a 5K salary how to become a billionaire. You want to ask a person who earns the money you want to earn at some point.
Choose your teacher carefully.
2nd Lesson: Find a Mentor
“One thing, I wish I’d known earlier is the importance of a mentor. Finding a mentor who’s leading you through your path of success is something I underestimated for too long. With a mentor on my side from a young age, I would have made it to success faster, avoided making hundreds of mistakes, burned less money, and saved myself an immense amount of valuable time coming up with solutions that someone had already worked out before me. Whoever wants to achieve being prosperous one day needs the right mentor by their side.”, Duncan said.
I asked Duncan: “How do I get a mentor?”. He explains: “There are many ways. A person can happen to be your mentor by accident. And if this is not the case, don’t wait and get yourself a mentor to coach you, accompany you and set up your mindset and business. Don’t hesitate and spend money for getting this additional input you need.”
3rd Lesson: Be Patient
“Back then, in my younger ages and during my first job where I was unhappy and I wasn’t even good at my job, I happened to meet an old, wise man. A billionaire. We were chatting and I asked him about the best way of becoming successful. How do I get away from my job and get a job where I get prosperous”, Duncan floated in thoughts. The billionaire asked Duncan: “What are you good at?”. Duncan said: “I can do everything. Tell me what and I’ll do it.” The billionaire taught him: “Then you’re not ready to become successful. If you think you can do everything, you’ll fail. You did not understand the value of time and patience. Therefore: Firstly find your focus and then slowly start.”
Whatever you want to do in your life, don’t rush. Take it easy. Go one baby step after the other. Think. Don’t run but build your expertise in one area, become a pro and then, slowly go on to the next step. Be patient. Trust the process and – trust yourself.
4th Lesson: Become Money Neutral
“One of the first steps you can’t avoid in your journey to financial independence is to become money neutral at first hand.
- Get rid of all possible debts
- Sell things that only cost you money regularly and do not make you money
- Work as much as possible besides your regular job to build up a reliable income stream (following lesson 5)
- Reach the first big barrier: Become money neutral and make a living entirely from your self-employment income
- Quit your job.”
Start with small things that don’t cost you much, where there’s no money to invest in the beginning. Sell a service. Sell something, where there’s no financial barrier that holds you back.
5th Lesson: Do Only Things you Enjoy
Catching up on the just mentioned words, I told Duncan: “Cool, I have a similar approach. I now have a permanent employment contract and would like to use it to take out my first loan and buy my first property. The rental income would then cover all my costs and after ±20 years I own a property.”
Duncan’s response surprised me, he took apart all my arguments: “Common, you cannot talk to properties. It just causes you problems and energy for years and in 20 years when you paid it off, what’s left? A property which is giving you 500 € per month. This will not gonna make you free, or happy, allows you to go on big travels or gives you the freedom you desire. It rather causes you a headache over years don’t forget about the loan, the arrangements, the possible risk you’re heading towards if there’s something broken – and, as well, the taxes you’re paying year by year for which you need another day-invest per year and more energy to declare the taxes.”
Duncan took another swing: “Choose a business, where you can choose the people you’re working with. Enjoy what you’re doing. To equity, you cannot talk. To people you can. With people, you can go for lunch, dinner and parties. You can connect on different levels, you can brainstorm. You feel joy. This is fun. Freedom in your inside. That’s what at least I strive for.”
He enthusiastically started to get out his cell phone and showed me videos from donkeys, small baby donkeys running around in the forest. He explained to me: Nicole, do you realise what adorable creatures such donkeys are? Unfortunately, donkeys are always incredibly put in a bad light. Recently, a farmer was no longer able to carry out her work and had to sell her dozens of donkeys. She did not know where to put so many donkeys – because no one wanted them. So I said, “Okay, all right, I’ll buy the donkeys.” This was, how Duncan became an owner of dozens of Donkeys and is now building an education centre where disabled kids and families can educate their social abilities by visiting the donkey farm and being instructed by donkey specialists. Duncan loves the idea, enjoys the process and with this new business, does one more thing he loves.
6h Lesson: Don’t worry about Money, worry about Big Ideas – Money will always flow to you
The next lesson is one of a kind. The words I do understand, also the roots of the lesson I do understand – it makes sense and is consistent with my faith. But for the first time in my life, I resonated with its meaning: If you only think about and manifest big ideas, money will automatically flow to you as you’ll attract the execution of exactly this – the big ideas.
The following words of Duncan have been tremendously burned into my mind: “Never worry about money. Worry about big Ideas. Worry about possibilities and fun projects. If you follow this train of thoughts with a true and sincere heart, money will always flow to you, no matter what.”
If you’re doing the contrary and just worry about money, you’ll never have money. You’ll attract more fear, and more restraints and just hold yourself back from building the life you desire.
7th and most important lesson: Be Smart and Automate Everything
Duncan looked me in the eye and said: “Nicole, I just do a few phone calls here and there, I don’t really work. I just make sure that it works. That’s it. If you want to get where I am now, one lesson you need to understand is to build up a system which doesn’t demand you, where you’re flexible and free, where you outsource everything.”.
This is just one story of many stories I could tell you from my recent Bali trip. It’s wonderful what this tropical island is unfolding in myself, my environment and in my natural ability to attract the right people into my life. It doesn’t need to be mentioned that’s not easy to follow the above 7 lessons on how to become a billionaire, but it’s definitely an inspirational flow of energy that’s entering one’s being and will start unfolding its power by the right time. That’s for granted! ✨
With love & only good intentions,
